North Alabama Neuro-Stroke Network

Through the North Alabama Neuro-Stroke Network, neurologists at Huntsville Hospital are able to remotely examine stroke patients at outlying hospitals that may not have their own neurologist. When a stroke victim arrives at a Neuro-Stroke Network hospital, emergency room staff gathers their medical history, conducts an initial stroke assessment and orders a CT brain scan. The scan provides detailed images of any potential blood clots, damage or bleeding within the brain.

A Huntsville Hospital neurologist will then examine the patient remotely – day or night – using a high-definition video camera system. The system allows the neurologist to see and talk to the patient in real time, review their CT scan images, and collaborate with the patient’s ER doctors and nurses on a treatment plan.

Huntsville Hospital’s Joint Commission-Certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center cares for more than 1,500 patients annually and is recognized by both the American Heart Association and U.S. News & World Report.
